Local & Organic

Visitors to the Kingdom of Fife will find a wide range of attractions and interests as well as a variety of landscapes. This width of appeal is also reflected in the food in Fife - with a large array of locally grown and produced products available throughout the Kingdom.

Buying locally produced food helps to support the local farmers, fishermen and suppliers, ensuring a livelihood, which as been a way of life for centuries, continues into the future.

Buying locally is also better for the environment as food travels far less from where it was produced to where it is consumed.

And due to this lack of food mileage - local food is also much more flavoursome, nutritious and healthy having been spared lengthy storage periods and freezing.

Buying locally in the Kingdom of Fife could not be easier with a Farmers' Market taking place nearly every Saturday of a month.

Farmers' markets are held:

1st Saturday of every month in St Andrews (Argyle Street Car Park)
2nd Saturday of every month in Dunfermline (Glen Gates, Bridge Street)
3rd Saturday of every month in Cupar (Bonnygate Car Park)
Last Saturday of every month in Kirkcaldy (Town Square)

With a choice of locally produced and sourced meats from beef and pork to water buffalo and wild boar, poultry, cheese, eggs, jams and honey, fish and seafood, smokies, vegetables, fruit and home baking - you will be spoilt for choice. There are also often a selection of craft and plant stalls.

Many of the products available at the Farmers' Market are organically produced but you can also buy directly from the farmers or have boxes of freshly picked produce delivered to your door.

For a list of organic farms that you can visit and much more information about buying locally and/or organically visit the Soil Association Scotland's website.

Fife also plays host to various food festivals throughout the year which celebrate the produce available on our doorstep.

Taking place in the East Neuk, where fishing is still, and has always been a way of life - The East Neuk Seafood Festival offers visitors and locals the chance to sample the freshest seafood in some of Fife's award winning restaurants.

The Cupar Summer Fruit Festival brings together a number of high-quality soft fruit producers from Cupar and the surrounding area to show off what the area has to offer. With a multitude of events throughout the area - this is an innovative, and delicious festival.

If you really want a taste of Fife - you will undoubtedly find something to tickle your tastebuds when you buy locally.
