Getting To Fife

Situated just across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh, Fife is remarkably close to all of central Scotland and the vast road network that links Scotland with the rest of Great Britain. It is easily accessible no matter how you plan to get around on your trip.

CAR

From Aberdeen & Dundee: Travel along the A92 through Dundee, passing over the Tay Bridge (there is now no toll on the Tay Bridge). The A92 stretches all the way from the north of Fife, through the Howe, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy and on to Dunfermline.

From Perth, Inverness & the north: Travel down the A9 from Inverness and the north until you reach Perth. From Perth you can follow the M90 all the way until you reach Dunfermline from where you can join the A92 or other smaller roads which will link you to towns and villages in west and central Fife. If you are travelling to the north or east of Fife then take the M90 from Perth before leaving at the Bridge of Earn junction onto the A913 which links directly with Cupar and the North, East and Howe of Fife.

From Edinburgh & the south: Edinburgh is directly connected to Fife by the Forth Road Bridge (there is now no toll on the Forth Road Bridge). The A90 starts near Edinburgh and continues over the bridge passed Dunfermline. At Dunfermline you have the option to join the A92 which will take you into the middle of Fife.

From Glasgow & the west coast: There is a large motorway connecting Glasgow with Edinburgh and this is the easiest way to travel to Fife from the west.

Fife is well served by trains both locally and nationally and has 18 train stations throughout the area. Fife sits on both the East Coast line which links with Dundee and Aberdeen, as well as linking with Perth and Inverness to the north. There are also trains directly to Glasgow and very regular trains to and from Edinburgh.

BUS

Fife's larger bus stations are located in Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Glenrothes, St Andrews and Cupar and are served by Stagecoach among others.

Inverkeithing Ferrytoll is a direct link between Fife and Edinburgh by bus. Many local and long haul services through Fife stop at Inverkeithing Ferrytoll meaning you can catch a bus to and from various places in Edinburgh approximately every 10 minutes. There is also a bus service directly from Edinburgh Airport (www.airdirect747.com) which stops at Inverkeithing Ferrytoll from which you can then link to a bus service to take you wherever you need to go in Fife.

You can also take the Megabus from various locations in the UK to Inverkeithing at very low cost. For more details visit their website: www.megabus.com/uk.
